Editorial

The SAPHIRE Project has reached the point where the first prototype is almost ready to be tested on virtual patient data.

It is now SCUB, the Emergency Hospital of Bucharest, that edits the new issue of the SAPHIRE Gazette.

SCUB is one of the end-users in the SAPHIRE Project and will develop the Hospital Pilot Application together with the other Romanian partner IPA.

The medical involvement in the Project has been crucial in adjusting the requirements to the medical needs, in guidelines models design and the design of the practical application.

Together with SSK, the other medical partner in the Consortium, we have provided medical validation of all SAPHIRE components and coo peration with the technical partners has been excellent and we have found common grounds to understand each other needs in very different domains.

We, doctors, are very excited about using the SAPHIRE system on our patients and we believe this project is going to have a major impact on in-hospital healthcare and also on guidelines implementation and adjustment to European medical standards.

Here you will find some interesting information about SCUB, about our involvement in the SAPHIRE Project, about Bucharest and Romania.

Enjoy the reading!

Prof. M.D.: Most of our research is strictly medical, clinical studies and also some fundamental research in genetics, molecular medicine and stem-cell therapies.

We have done some work in e-health together with the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, in ECG monitoring from the distance, but our ex perience with ICT when we started in the SAPHIRE Project was quite limited. Read More

State of the art

Since the beginning of modern anaesthesia, in 1846 (the first public demonstration of modern anaesthesia in Boston in 1846), there has been a tremendous increase in monitoring devices, especially in the past 30 years.

Modern technology has provided a large number of sophisticated monitors and therapeutic instruments, particularly in the past decade. The most important aspect in monitoring the critically ill patient is the detection of life-threatening derangements of vital functions. Read More
