A meeting with the Vice Mayor of Karditsa responsible for e-Government was held on 8 of September to agree on the adoption of DIEGO for the provision of e-services to the citizens of the city.
Karditsa, with a population of about 40.000, is a city in western Thessaly of mainland Greece, in a distance of approximately 300 km from Athens and 210 km from Thessaloniki. The city of Karditsa is the capital of Karditsa peripheral unit. The Municipality of Karditsa was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of 5 former municipalities, all of which now became municipal units: Itamos, Kallifono, Kampos, Karditsa and Mitropoli.

The Municipality of Karditsa has been active in the area of e-services and has accumulated experiences and good practices in the area of e-Government, however there are still many steps to go especially when considering current lacks on awareness and expertise for inclusiveness and inclusive e-Government services.
Though not an official partner in the DIEGO project, the Municipality of Karditsa will have an active role in the employment and the validation of the DIEGO platform. Sustainability is a key and the most important step, as recognised by the Vice Mayor Mr Nikos Karagiannis, is “to match current needs of the citizens with existing capabilities that are also available so that new services will be offered that will satisfy the criteria of inclusiveness”.
