ALTEC Research Programmes Division has worked in defining a methodological framework for Situation Room Analysis (SRA), and its employment for complex (business enterprise) systems study.
More specifically, research takes place in the area of multi-party collaboration and decision making activities by using as central metaphor to it , this of a Situation Room (SR).
The latter term is broadly used in the context of military operations and has specific semantical connotations. These connotations are deliberately exploited in order to propose an analytical scheme based on it, which aims to assist planning initiatives and decision making in specialised business domain.
The traditional approach, building mainly on industrial-era paradigm(s), has focused on strictly planned - rigidly defined operations as well as the outcomes of such operations (costs, profits, cash flows) essentially ignoring the (various types of) risk exposure of the company.
The fast growth of innovations in the last 20 years (coming mainly from the service and engineering disciplines) exposes companies and their shareholders to considerable and difficult to quantify (types of) risks.
Such a room would enable stakeholders to get to important data “faster, better and cheaper” and foster a fresh approach and a novel culture in corporate decision-making.
